Analyzing Effective Factors to Choose Children and Adolescents Book Format Based On the Graphic Criteria in Iran

Abstract


The Increase in study hours is usually considered by culture makers. Getting use to studying from childhood would be helpful in this affair. Diversification of the book appearance including its size can affect the audiences’ welcome and increase in children’s attention for reading books. This study is an answer to the question what factors are effective on selecting book format in the view point of the graphic designer. The research method in terms of the purpose was practicable and in terms of the researcher control on the study variables was non-experimental, descriptive and casual. The data collection was done by two methods of library and field, with taking notes and using questionnaires. Thirty Iranian graphic designers working in children publishing sector have been considered as the sample of the research society by using random sampling. Statistical tests such as Kolmogrove – Esmirnov test and t-test of one independent sample and Friedman test have been used for the study. As a result, several factors including duration of use, color and design, number of pages, topic, the story atmosphere, book lightness, production costs, appearance and application affects selection of the children’s book format. Also, to design adolescents’ book format, indicators such as color and design, duration of use, production costs, number of pages, topic and application are the priority.
