Promoting Safety Level of Development Projects by Risk Management
Abstract
Development projects in each country as one of the main development infrastructures are faced with uncertainty and risk more than any other industry. Experts and researchers have proposed various factors in the safety success of construction industry and improving its safety including addressing the issue of risk management. The aim of this study was to evaluate safety risks for better performance in development projects. Here the DEA, AHP and a combination of those methods are used for risk analysis and the purpose of their combination is to cover the weaknesses of the intended methods. Risk assessment is used in two case studies of different projects. Based on the survey and interviews with experts, the main safety risks of the project were identified. After the analysis the risk of falling when welding the structure frame, the risk of falling objects and collisions with vehicles and machinery in both projects were identified as the most important risks. Finally, using sensitivity analysis the solutions and risk mitigation strategies are suggested as: training personnel, the use of personal protection equipment, proper safeguard of openings and heights, using preventive equipment and safety training.
